Your Restaurant’s Alternative to Donairs, with Plain Old Pizza Dough

Pizza DoughThere’s a reason restaurants specialize in creating donairs – they need to really specialize in them. Offering authentic donairs requires you to purchase the proper equipment such as the spit, order specialty meats, and ensure that the meat is properly cooked at all times. You can offer your customers an alternative though, with this sandwich, made from pizza dough, and really easy to make.

Ingredients:

  • 1 roast beef, cooked to about medium-rare and thinly sliced
  • 1 package dough, thawed and cut into smaller circles, about the same size as a pita
  • 1 can evaporated milk
  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 4 teaspoons white vinegar

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit, or according to package instructions.
  2. Lay out the Italian pizza dough on a well-floured surface.
  3. Layer thin slices of the beef on one half of the dough and fold the other side of the dough back over. Place in the oven and cook for 10-15 minutes, or what’s stated on the package.
  4. While donair is cooking, mix together the evaporated milk, white sugar, and garlic powder until everything is blended well. Slowly, one teaspoon at a time, add the white vinegar to this mixture until it’s the desired consistency.
  5. When donair is done, remove from oven, top with donair sauce and serve!

With just a few ingredients these come together to make some of the tastiest sandwiches your customers have ever had; and maybe even better than donairs!
