Use Pizza Dough to Make Doughnut Holes on National Doughnut Day!

Frozen DoughNational Doughnut Day has been celebrated in the United States since 1938, and it’s coming up soon on June 1. This year let your customers join in on the festivities by offering up these doughnut holes that are really easy to make, and that might help you use up leftover pizza dough

Ingredients:

  • 1 package dough, completely defrosted if frozen
  • 4 quarts vegetable oil, for frying

Toppings:

  • 3 tablespoons sugar mixed with 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • Coconut flakes and powdered sugar
  • Melted chocolate
  • Honey

Instructions:

  1. Tear off small pieces of dough and roll into a golf-sized ball. Repeat with remaining dough, and then place in refrigerator to chill for about an hour.
  2. Place oil in a large pot, or use deep-fryer, and heat to approximately 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. When oil is hot, place dough balls gently into the oil and fry until dough is crisp and golden brown, about 3-5 minutes. Fry dough in batches if needed, so not to overcrowd the fryer.
  4. Remove doughnut holes from fryer and drain slightly on a paper towel before dipping or rolling in your topping of choice.

These can be served as is to your customers, and they will love them! And if they ask for a savory option, fry the dough balls and then roll them in Parmesan cheese after removing from oil. Serve with pizza garnish, such as pizza sauce on the side.
