The Most Extravagant Pizza Garnish

Pizza GarnishWe’ve told you about many different world records before that involved different types of pizza dough, and Italian pizza dough. But now we’d like to tell you about a different kind of world record, one that uses pizza garnish. Not just any topping though, the most expensive pizza toppings in the world!

It was Chef Renato Viola of Salerno, Italy that created the world’s most expensive pizza, and he created it in honor of Louis XIII. If you order the Louis XIII pizza at Chef Viola’s restaurant, you better bring your wallet with you – it costs $12,000. So what’s on this pizza that it could cost so much?

The first topping isn’t sauce but cheese – mozzarella di bufala, which is cheese made from the milk of the semi-wild buffalo that roam around the region. After the cheese is layered on, not just one – but three – different types of caviar are added before bits of lobster are placed on for extra flair. Top it all off with a bit of pink salt that is hand-picked from the ocean waters surrounding Australia, and you’ve got the most expensive pizza in the world.

Can you take a guess at how long it takes Chef Viola to make this pizza? Over three days. Not only does it take some time to acquire some of the ingredients, but the dough has to be rested for 72 hours before it’s shaped and cooked.
