At first it was Wikipedia that stated that Sam Panopoulos invented the pineapple and ham pizza for his restaurant, Satellite Restaurant, in 1962. After reporters contacted him to verify the information, Mr. Panopoulos confirmed that he did indeed make it, without question.

But that doesn’t mean that everyone’s believing his story about his creation. Italians don’t take credit for making this particular type of pizza made with Italian dough, but they do argue that Hawaiian pizza was actually created in Germany, not Hawaii. Wherever this delicious pizza came from, it definitely wasn’t Hawaii as one would be led to believe.
