Is This Story about Wholesome and Delicious Pizza Fact? Or Fiction?

There are a lot of great stories about homemade pizza pie, whether it’s about the largest pizza, the largest order, or the longest distance order (all stories that we’ve brought you, by the way.) But now that you’ve heard just about all of them, this time you have to guess whether the following wholesome and delicious story is fact – or fiction.

Frozen Pizza DoughUpon hearing that a San Diego hospital was committing insurance fraud, a team of FBI agents spent an entire day there going through documents and investigating. After several hours the team became exceptionally hungry and so, the detective in charge phoned in an order to the local pizza place. Or rather, he tried to.

The conversation on the agent’s end went something like this, “I want to order 19 large pizzas and dozens of cans of soda. I’m an FBI agent at the psychiatric hospital. We’re all FBI agents here.” The pizza parlor misunderstood, and thought that the agent was a patient calling from the hospital, either ill or playing a prank. And, the fact that the head detective also told the pizza restaurant to make certain they go around to the back door, because “they had locked the front doors,” didn’t help.

Not surprisingly, after this misunderstanding, the pizza place hung up and the agents had to look elsewhere for lunch that day.

So, did this really happen?

Yes, it sounds like something too funny to be true, but in fact this actually took place. A transcript of the conversation has been documented by the Center for Strategic and International Studies report on global organized crime.
