Homemade Pizza Was the First Food Offered as “All You Can Eat”

New York Pizza doughWe’ve all gone to all you can eat buffets, and maybe all you can eat pizza buffets. But while it seems as though this style of cuisine has been around forever, it started in 1958, and homemade pizza was the first to kick off the craze!

It’s believed that it was when the first Pizza Hut opened in 1958 that the all you can eat pizza buffet lunch began. The buffet was then, and still is, only available in full-size Pizza Hut restaurants and not Pizza Hut Express or The Hut locations. Buffet restaurants continue to remain hugely popular today, as do “by the meter” or “by the pound” restaurants and cafeterias. So you could say that pizza crust is responsible for all kinds of food crazes!

If you have the space to set up a buffet pizza lunch in your restaurant, it’s something that you should consider. Not only will it get more customers into your restaurant for the lunch rush, but when you offer different types of pizza for people to choose from, such as thin crust, New York Pizza dough and gluten free pizza crust, it can open them up to something that they might not have otherwise tried out. And that can bring them back to your restaurant time and time again.
