Apple Strudel Pie, Using Whole Wheat Pizza Dough

That’s why when we came up with this recipe for apple strudel pie using whole wheat pizza dough we were excited to pass Whole Wheat Productsit on!

Ingredients:

  • 1 package dough, crust or other whole wheat products
  • 7 Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
  • ¼ cup butter, plus 1/3 cup, melted
  • ¾ cup flour, plus 2 tablespoons
  • ¾ cup brown sugar, plus 1/3 cup
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon, plus ½ teaspoon
  • ¼ cup chopped nuts

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Roll out thin pizza crust and place in a shallow casserole dish. Combine apples, ¾ cup brown sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, and ¼ cup butter. Place in crust.
  3. Combine 1/3 cup melted butter, ¾ cup flour, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/3 cup brown sugar. Add nuts. Mix well until fully blended and sprinkle on top of base mixture.
  4. Place in preheated oven and bake for 50 – 55 minutes, until filling is hot and bubbly, and top is brown and crisp.
