Another Dessert Pizza Crust, for Banana Lover’s Day!

package doughThere are dessert pizzas, and then there are banana’s foster dessert pizzas! With prepared pizza crust it’s easy, and there’s no flambéing required.

Ingredients:

  • 1 thin pizza crust
  • ¼ cup dark brown sugar
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cold and cut up into bits
  • 3 bananas, sliced
  • 1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon
  • ½ cup confectioner’s sugar
  • 2 teaspoons milk
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, or as indicated on the package dough.
  2. Roll dough out if needed, and place on a baking sheet. Layer banana slices over top of the dough.
  3. In a food processor combine the white and brown sugar with the butter. Give it a quick pulse so the butter is combined, and so that you are left with pea-sized crumbs. Add the cinnamon and give it another quick pulse to mix.
  4. Sprinkle the butter mixture evenly over the bananas.
  5. Place in the preheated oven and cook for 15-20 minutes, until the sugars have completely melted and slightly carmalized.
  6. While the pizza is cooking combine the confectioner’s sugar, milk, and vanilla. Using a mixer combine them very well to make the icing.
  7. When pizza is ready to come out of oven, allow it to cool for 5 minutes before drizzling icing over top.

If you want to make this recipe even more impressive, forget about the icing and serve it tableside. Drizzle a bit of sherry or brandy over top instead and then flambé it right in front of your customers.
